The Washington Post suggests nine less-crowded summer vacation destinations to its readers, and the list also includes Albania.
Instead of Mykonos, try Albania, suggests Natalie B. Compton in her article. Greece ranks high for American travelers this summer, the journalist says, and Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias is predicting 10 to 20 percent more visitors to the country this year than last. The Greek island of Mykonos was Airbnb’s top trending international destination for American users, Compton writes, as she proposes Albania as the alternative to that.
“With crystal-clear water and affordable prices, try Greece’s northern neighbor Albania. You’ll find Mediterranean beaches along the Albanian Riviera, and inland, the mountains are idyllic for hiking, cycling and ancient cities,” she writes in her article.
Prime Minister Edi Rama also shared the news on his Facebook page.
“Here is also the media giant Washington Post, praising the touristic Albania, which is proposed to readers as the best alternative even compared to the super famous neighboring Mykonos, inviting them to try the unique experience along the Albanian coast with crystal beaches, ancient cities and mountains perfect for nature sports, as the most complete package of sustainable tourism, instead of well-known but also overcrowded Mediterranean destinations,” says the Prime Minister.
The article proposes other alternatives for those who prefer avoiding bigger crowds, such as Buenos Aires instead of Paris, Montreal instead of New York, Laughlin instead of Las Vegas, Costa Rica instead of Cancún, Bison Range instead of Yellowstone, Turin and Sardinia instead of Rome and Amalfi, Oslo instead of London and St. Augustine or Hudson Valley instead of Orlando.
Industry experts predict summer 2023 to be the busiest at airports in decades, writes the Washington Post, despite significantly higher costs.
