Attention! Very soon, the main highways in the country will not only be monitored by intelligent cameras, but with the implementation of the systems, drivers who violate traffic rules will also begin to be fined.
“When a traffic violation occurs, the intelligent cameras automatically record the data and corresponding photos. These are then analyzed by operators and transmitted to the State Police. The latter verifies the case and issues the appropriate fine, which is sent directly to the driver through the electronic fine system,” said Marin Bezhani – Director of the National Traffic Monitoring Center (QKMT).
But which locations are currently being monitored?
“Monitoring is currently being conducted in a testing phase at several strategically selected points, including: Golem near the train station, the overpasses at Spille 1 and Spille 2, the area known as ‘Zham Sektor’, as well as in Bisht i Zhurit and Rrogozhinë. In addition, tests are being carried out on several other main road axes across the country.”
The final goal is to cover 3,650 kilometers, which are part of the inventory of the Albanian Road Authority, and to integrate with the “smart city” project.
“The National Traffic Monitoring Center is currently in the final stage of software and technical testing, while the physical infrastructure on the ground is being finalized for the first 200 kilometers of main road axes. Full activation of monitoring is expected to happen very soon, once these tests are completed and the optimal functioning of the systems is ensured,” said Marin Bezhani.
Around 200 kilometers of the country’s main highways are part of this intelligent camera monitoring project.
