An interpellation called for the dismissal of Afrim Gashi from the post of Speaker of the Assembly of North Macedonia failed late on Tuesday, after it did not receive enough votes during a session with fierce debate.

Only 21 deputies voted for Gashi’s dismissal, while 72 others voted against.

The interpellation for Gashi did not pass after the deputies of the ruling majority of VMRO-DPMNE, ZNAM and Vredi voted against the initiative of the “Left” party, which demanded responsibility from Gashi for several incidents that happened in less than two months.

The votes of at least 61 deputies were needed to dismiss Gashi from the post.
