Former Minister of Finances Anila Denaj has been questioned at the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SPAK) on Friday regarding the investigations being conducted on the sterilization concession at the Ministry of Health. After leaving the special prosecution office, she emphasized that she was questioned as a person who has knowledge.

“This is not the time to say more. You asked me why I was there, to clarify on information I know from working at the General Directorate of Economic and Support Services of the Ministry of Finances and Economy, at the time this concession was being discussed,” declared Denaj after coming out of SPAK.

Former Minister of Health Ilir Beqja and former Deputy Minister Klodian Rrjepaj have also been questioned earlier on this matter.

On December 10, 2015, the Ministry of Health signed a concession contract worth 100 million dollars with the company “Sani Service” for “Integrated services for the provision of personalized surgical instrument sets, supply of disposable medical materials in surgical rooms, and treatment of biological waste and disinfection of surgical rooms”.

This concession is the first case registered at SPAK, following a complaint filed by the Hashtag Movement (Nisma Thurje). The latter raised suspicions about excessively high costs, as the price of sterilization for a surgical set was 2.4 euros for public hospitals, while the concessionaire was receiving an average of 190 euros according to the contract, for the same service.

SPAK is also conducting investigations on other concessions given by the Ministry of Health, such as the check-up concession. A few days ago, as part of the investigations into this tender, the Special Prosecution Office questioned 70 citizens from Elbasan.
