The number of private enterprises reached over 130 thousand in 2023, marking a 4% increase compared to the previous year.

The interest to open businesses increased especially in the trade and service sectors, driven by the tourist boom that the country received after 2020.

According to the size, small enterprises which are run by families and employ less than 5 individuals, occupy about 90% of the total in number, while the 2000 large businesses employ more than 50% of the employees.

As for enterprises with foreign capital, they reached 6038 with activities distributed in services, trade, industry, information and construction.

About 66% of enterprises are concentrated in the districts of Tirana, Durrës and Vlora. The largest number of them is in Tirana with 61,600, while the smallest number is in Kukës with 1,410 enterprises.

The 2023 business register, published by INSTAT, also reports farmers registered with NIPT, which have reached 96,000, with an annual increase of 14%.
