The Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio told Kosovo that it doesn’t need to be afraid of the dialogue with Serbia, as according to him, this process will only strengthen it further in the international arena.
The Italian minister gave a statement during his visit to Prishtina today, after his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gervalla.
During his official visit to Kosovo, Italy and Kosovo signed an agreement for the elimination of double taxation as well as the prevention of fiscal evasion.
“The mitigation from the EU and the strong support of the US is a great historical opportunity for both countries. Kosovo doesn’t have anything to fear from this dialogue, on the contrary, it will only serve to make its status stronger on the international level,” said Di Maio.
Di Maio also encouraged the countries of the Western Balkans to take advantage of the regional agreements in order to alleviate the free movement of people and services.
“Italy is completely convinced that the future of Kosovo is in Europe and we will continue to have our voices hear, to have the visa liberalization be considered in the agenda for the citizens of Kosovo that we hope will be achieved as soon as possible,” he added.
In regards to the agreements signed by the Italian ambassador to Kosovo and the Minister of Finance, Minister Di Maio stated that this will help Italian companies be more present in the Kosovar market and that this will allow companies in Kosovo to look at Italy as a basis for their internationalization and their integration in the joint European market.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla stated that signing this deal will greatly contribute to the economic collaboration between both countries.
“By signing this important bilateral agreement, it will contribute to making the economic collaboration between Kosovo and Italy much less bureaucratic and much easier, and it will also contribute to having a much better environment, especially in terms of direct foreign investments from Italy and Kosovo. This is yet another example that proves our excellent collaboration as we are considering advancing our collaboration by opening the way for the reciprocal recognition of our driver’s licenses, our agreements on cultural collaboration and much more,” she said.
After the meeting with Gervalla, the Italian diplomat will be meeting with the Chairman of the Parliament of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca and he will also be presenting a statement at the Parliament of Kosovo.
