Former President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, reacted through a post on Facebook regarding the court hearing against the former KLA leaders, as The Hague prosecution is seeking 45 years in prison for each of them.
In her statement, Jahjaga emphasized that Kosovo became a state thanks to the unwavering contribution of its citizens and the support of Western allies. She described the situation in The Hague as one of the most difficult challenges.
She added that this will be the final challenge attempting to tarnish the country and its just and heroic war.
“The Republic of Kosovo became a state thanks to the steadfast contribution of its citizens, as well as in alliance with our Western friends. An obligation of this alliance is the protection and preservation of our just war, as well as our right to be a state.
Kosovo’s leaders who are currently in The Hague have faced even greater challenges. Unlike others in the region, believing in the justice and purity of the war for the country’s freedom, they have never avoided facing international justice.
This is the final challenge, from which I am convinced we will prevail against any attempt to tarnish us as a country, them as individuals, and our just and heroic war,” Jahjaga wrote.
