The High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said on Tuesday in Brussels that Montenegro is the most advanced candidate country in the process of enlargement of the European Union and is the first in line to join the EU.

He said this while speaking in Brussels in front of journalists together with the president of Montenegro, Jakov Millatović, who is on his first visit to the EU headquarters since he was elected president of Montenegro.

Borrell thanked Montenegro for adapting to the positions of the European Union in the field of foreign policy and security. He said that there are forces that do not like this policy of Montenegro and want to destabilize it.

Borrell also said, that this is the reason EU will continue to help Montenegro face these challenges.

“We live in the life of Russian aggression in Ukraine and in this situation it is necessary to maintain the strategic orientation of Montenegro for EU integration”, said Borrell.
