Journalist Vladimir Karaj spoke about the Russian detainees in August of this year, after they were caught at the Gramsh plant.

Invited to Euronews Albania’s “NOW with Erla Mehilli”, he said that there is still no evidence from the prosecution to say that they are spies.

He further stated that the Court’s decisions are keeping those arrested on reasonable suspicion in prison after they were caught inside a fenced area that has a history as a military base.

“What we know so far are some decisions made by the Court, which revolve around security measures, and are based on reasonable suspicion, but there is no evidence from the prosecution that has been made public and where it can be said that they can be linked to espionage, or that they were gathering data for some kind of espionage purposes, i.e. by providing classified information.

In this sense, I think the Court’s decisions are keeping them in prison on reasonable suspicion since they were caught inside a fenced area that has a history as a military base.

What has been said by the defense minister and the prime minister, is that this location has no secrets and there is nothing they could’ve actually spied on. What we do know is that it’s probably a group of people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The attraction for these sorts of things is well-known,” he said.
