The commander of NATO’s mission in Kosovo, KFOR, Enrico Barduani, met on Tuesday with the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Milan Mojsilović, in Belgrade.
The meeting in the Serbian capital came about five months after their previous encounter, held in October 2024.
KFOR did not provide specific details about the discussions but stated on X that “they exchanged views on the security situation and assessed their respective efforts.”
Meanwhile, the website of the Serbian Armed Forces reported that the Serbian army chief urged the KFOR commander to ensure “a safe environment and freedom of movement for everyone, especially for the Serbian community.”
According to the statement published by the Serbian military, both parties agreed that the security situation in Kosovo remains “unstable and sensitive.”
“Regular contacts at all levels, as well as joint activities, must continue in order to reduce tensions on the ground and prevent the escalation of the crisis,” the statement said.
KFOR stated that this meeting was part of the KFOR commander’s regular engagements with key interlocutors in the Western Balkans region.
During his visit to Belgrade, Barduani also met with diplomatic representatives from France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union in Serbia.
“He briefed them on KFOR’s activities and the mission’s cooperation with the international community, including steadfast support for the EU-facilitated dialogue aimed at normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina,” KFOR’s statement said.
