Durrës is not just a summer destination but also a place where Kosovo Albanians feel at home. For this reason, many chose to celebrate Kosovo’s Independence Day in Durrës.
Kosovo citizens themselves explain why they prefer Durrës for this special occasion:
“We love Albania, we are deeply connected to it, and we dream of coming here for vacations. We enjoy both places, but we consider Albania as our mother, and a mother and sister always stay together. That’s why we are here,” said a woman.
“There are several reasons why we choose Durrës. First, the affordable offers, the proximity to Kosovo, and the fact that we can use Durrës for celebrations. This is not the first time we’ve come here.”
“Albania’s beauty, its hospitality—it’s wonderful. This is our first time celebrating Independence Day in Durrës. We had a great time here, and now we’re heading back to Kosovo to continue the celebration,” said a man.
Kosovo Albanians are known for their loyalty in vacationing in Albania. This year, tourist arrivals have been exceptionally high, especially during the Independence Day celebrations, filling Durrës’ hotels and restaurants.
“This year, we have seen a significant influx of tourists from Kosovo. The entire Durrës Riviera has been packed. Kosovo’s Independence Day in Durrës is a special occasion, celebrated in all hotels across the city with the same enthusiasm as Albania’s Independence Day. The celebrations include music, traditional Kosovar and Albanian cuisine, and festive events. This year, the holiday coincided with a long weekend, and visitors have stayed for 3-4 days in Albania,” explained Blerim Norja, a tourism operator.
Durrës continues to be a beloved destination for Kosovo Albanians—not only for its natural beauty and tourism offers but, above all, for the sense of belonging that this place provides.
