Serbian politician and director of the Office for Kosovo Petar Petkovic was denied a two-day visit to Kosovo.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora in Kosovo declared that there were reports of hate speech during his last three visits to the country.

The Ministry singled out a case during the inauguration of a university in Northern Mitrovica.

“Contrary to the obligation and commitment to refrain from provocative remarks and inciting hates, he has openly and continuously used hate language during the last three visits, culminating in the last visit with the inauguration of the so-called university in Northern Mitrovica. In addition, he did not warn the Kosovar side for this activity”, responded the ministry to an inquiry for local media KosovaPress.

The remainder of the delegation will still be allowed entrance into Kosovo.

On Friday, Serbia’s Office for Kosovo said that the act shows Kosovo’s unwillingness to normalize ties with Serbia.

“This is the third time that Kosovo stops the director of the Office for Kosovo and chief Serbian negotiator in the technical dialogue, and this comes ahead of the dialogue between Belgrade and Prishtina due next week in Brussels, something that also shows Prishtina’s unwillingness in normalizing ties with Belgrade”, the statement read.
