The Government of Kosovo has approved the draft budget for 2025, which amounts to 3.6 billion euros.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that this figure represents an increase of nearly 9 percent compared to the previous year’s budget.
He said that during the four years of his party’s government, Kosovo’s budget has grown “year after year like never before”.
Kurti said that there is an increase in the budget for many sectors, including that of salaries, which includes the announced salary increase for the public sector.
The day before, the executive announced that public sector workers in January of next year will receive a salary increase of 55 euros and another 55 euros in July 2025.
At the Government meeting held on October 30, Kurti said that in addition to salaries, the budget has also been increased for child allowances, 100 million euros have been added to cover the 20 percent increase in pensions, while the budget for the health sector has been increased for purchase of essential drugs.
The Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, said that the budget is comprehensive and reflects the trend of economic growth.
Murati said that the main sectors that have benefited from an increase in the budget are the sectors of defense, security, health, road infrastructure, and others.
The Minister of Finance said that this year Kosovo had accelerated economic growth and in real terms, this growth at the end of the year will be 4.5 percent.
According to international financial mechanisms, the economic growth of Kosovo this year will reach close to 4 percent.
Meanwhile, regarding the Government’s projections for economic growth for the next year, Murati said that in Kosovo this economic growth will be 5.6 percent.
According to the laws, the Government had until the end of October to vote on the budget for the next year. Now, the budget must go to the Assembly and be examined and approved by the deputies, who have until the end of the year to approve the budget.
