The Basic Court in Pristina has delivered its verdict against the defendant charged with war crimes, Sërgjan Lazoviq, sentencing him to 12 years and six months in prison.
Lazoviq was convicted for crimes committed in Panorc, Malisheva, during the last war in Kosovo, reports Betimi për Drejtësi.
The indictment against him was filed in 2024 by the Kosovo Special Prosecution. According to the indictment obtained by this justice-focused media outlet, Lazoviq was accused of having, during the period 1998–1999 in the village of Panorc in Malisheva, jointly with other as-yet-unidentified persons, carried out unlawful arrests and physical and psychological abuse of Albanian civilians who were not involved in the war.
The indictment states that from September 3 to October 5, 1998, in Panorc, Lazoviq, as a uniformed individual, together with other members of the Serbian police and military forces, with the aim of intimidation, mass displacement, and ethnic cleansing of the Albanian population, arrested, detained, tortured, and physically and psychologically abused approximately 500 civilians.
