Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti received the renowned Albanian writer with international reputation, Ismail Kadare in a meeting in Pristina on Tuesday.

In a press release, it is stated that Kurti and Kadare discussed literature, history, and the culture of the Albanian people.

Reflecting on the past regarding the world of books, Prime Minister Kurti reminded Kadare how his books have been a criterion for students to read, mentioning famous works such as “The Palace of Dreams”, “The Siege”, “The Three-Arched Bridge”, and “The General of the Dead Army”. He stated that these volumes have been the motivation that inspired the reading of all of Kadare’s works.

Due to the fact that Kadare’s literature highlights Albanian national history from a different perspective, a more human and spiritual one, according to the Prime Minister, it is the reason that makes it such a beautiful art of storytelling and encourages reading history. Consequently, he reiterated that we should teach the younger generations more about history through Kadare’s literature, as it is irreplaceable and essential.

On the other hand, writer Ismail Kadare, as emphasized in the press release, stated that working for nations and their creations is a moral and universal obligation. Furthermore, he ranked Albania among the leading countries in the European region that has published literature, such as historical and national books in the Albanian language.

Regarding Albanian culture, Kadare added that besides being a service to the Albanian people itself, it also has a special role in serving the entire European region, finding rejuvenation and inspiration in the time of Dante.

“Through literary art,” he said, “we must convey the truth to our readers, our contemporaries, as this value is highly necessary and precious for humanity.”

In this meeting, Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Hajrulla Çeku, while Ismail Kadare was accompanied by his wife, Helena.
