The Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo has filed an indictment against 27 people because they were involved in smuggling migrants.
According to the announcement, the 27 defendants collaborated to smuggle more than 700 people, mostly Syrians, from Albania to Kosovo.
Then, according to the Special Prosecutor’s Office, the defendants had enabled the migrants to cross into Serbia, as they intended to go to European countries, writes Radio Free Europe.
Since 2015, the countries of the Western Balkans have turned into a transit center for people fleeing the Middle East and Africa and aiming to reach the European Union countries.
Kosovo has centers for accepting migrants, but most of them use this country as a transit to the EU.
