The journalist of VOA, Kejda Kostreci told journalist Ilva Tare on Euronews Albania that based on the procedures followed for the non-grata declaration of former PM Sali Berisha by the U.S Department of State, it doesn’t seem like a decision that was taken in a hurry, but rather it must have been a decision-making process stretched out in time.
Kostreci stated that based on information gathered by VOA through interviews with personalities and experts of Albanian politic, even though the proofs and arguments regarding this decision aren’t made public, the U.S. is based on solid sources in order to come to this kind of decision.
She called the success of Berisha’s lawsuit against US Secretary Blinken, practically impossible because the latter didn’t take a personal decision, but only declared it from the position of a high official of the US.
“It is hard, if not impossible that a US Secretary of State be held accountable for doing his job. Based on what Berisha said, he will be suing him personally, but Blinken didn’t make this decision personally but as the Secretary of the State. In this case, the courts should decide whether such an act could actually be undertaken. There’s no basis in suing someone that has made a decision in a lawful manner,” said Kostreci.
