The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has nominated Glauk Konjufca as candidate for prime minister.

After Kurti’s failure to form a government, the General Council of Vetëvendosje, in its meeting today, proposed Konjufca as the party’s new nominee to lead the government.

On Wednesday, November 5, the deadline expires for President Vjosa Osmani to decide whether she will mandate a candidate for prime minister or dissolve the Assembly to pave the way for new elections.

The head of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, described Vetëvendosje’s meeting as a “theatrical performance”, calling Konjufca “a nominee without numbers, without a majority, and without democratic legitimacy.”

“I want to believe that the President of the Republic will respect the will of the Albanian majority, rather than the propaganda meetings of parties with full nominees but without a parliamentary majority,” Abdixhiku wrote on Facebook.

President Osmani met with representatives of political parties on October 31 to discuss the issue of the nominee and the possibility of elections.

Following the meeting, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) argued that there is no governing majority and that elections appear to be the only option.

Meanwhile, Kurti did not make any comments to the media.

After the talks, Osmani stated that Kurti had requested another meeting before November 5 — when the 10-day period expires — to see whether a parliamentary majority could still be secured.
