Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has announced that in the next mandate more than €1 billion will be allocated for the army, and he also pledged the development of domestically produced military drones branded “Made in Kosovo.”
Kurti stated that during the upcoming mandate, the Ammunition Factory will become operational and the country’s military industry will be developed.
“The strengthening of the army will be achieved through the purchase of weaponry, training, and education within the country, in cooperation with Albania and at the most renowned military academies in partner countries,” Kurti said.
He further added that a joint military unit with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania will also be established.
The caretaker Prime Minister underlined his goal to deepen and expand international cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally, with NATO member states. He also noted that within the new mandate, Kosovo expects to have 1,000 women serving in the armed forces.
Kurti also spoke about Kosovo’s integration into the European Union, stressing that the goal is for Kosovo to successfully close all chapters of the EU accession process by 2030.
