The Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) has nominated its leader, Albin Kurti—currently serving as Kosovo’s caretaker prime minister—for another term at the head of the Government.
Kurti was proposed unanimously during the 59th meeting of LVV’s General Council, held on Sunday.
Vetëvendosje emerged as the leading force in Kosovo’s parliamentary elections on February 9, securing 48 seats in the Assembly—insufficient on their own to form a government.
In his speech, Kurti thanked party members for their trust and outlined the program for what he described as a “new governance.”
Among other points, Kurti emphasized the country’s aspirations for membership in the European Union and NATO. He also sharply criticized the Constitutional Court for decisions it issued during his time in office, as well as its more recent rulings regarding the constitution of the Assembly.
LVV’s decision to nominate Kurti comes just days after Kosovo’s Constitutional Court imposed a temporary measure prohibiting deputies from undertaking any steps toward forming a new government.
The measure, in effect from September 5 to 30, has been criticized by LVV, which has called for moving forward with the formation of the new Government.
