The ownership of the land where once stood the National Theater will be transferred to the Municipality of Tirana.
After a ruling of the Constitutional Court revoking a decree signed by the Council of Ministers last year that transferred the ownership from the culture ministry to Tirana’s municipality, the government has now compiled a new draft transferring the property of the land to the municipality.
The draft is expected to get the green light at the upcoming Council of Minister’s meeting.
The memo read exclusively by Euronews Albania says that the property will pass the municipality, after the ministry of culture has not foreseen the acquisition of any funds for the reconstruction of a new theater, while the municipality of Tirana has already taken several actions.
The Constitutional Court overturned the Council of Minister’s decree arguing that it undermined the sovereignty of the local government and acted counter to principles of rule of law on the protection of national heritage.
Minister of Culture taken to SPAK
The Alliance for the Protection of the Theater is pressing charges near SPAK against the minister of culture over allegations of abuse of office.
The lawsuit deposited on Friday against minister Elva Margariti comes after the latter refused the Alliance’s plea to enforce the decision of the Constitutional Court.
Security stopped the activists from entering the premises of the ministry and did not give them permission to submit their request to Margariti.
