The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, has stated that the West would not be satisfied with anything other than separating Kosovo from Serbia.
He made these statements during an interview for the documentary entitled “25th anniversary of the NATO air attack on Yugoslavia”.
Lavrov also spoke about the meetings that were held in France in February and March of 1999.
According to him “all Serbian attempts to reach fair compromises were rejected”.
“It was a humiliation and a deliberate provocation that pushed the Serbs to give up everything. It’s all part of the same chain. The Minsk agreements follow the same logic from the perspective of Western geopolitical interests,” Lavrov said.
The Russian chief diplomat added that the main goal of the Western countries was to attract the Balkan countries to NATO, and then to join the European Union.
“However, NATO can be joined at any time, as we saw from the decision to admit the Baltic states, which did not meet any criteria, but were allowed to join for reasons of political expediency,” said the Russian chief diplomat.
