After a marathon session, the Constitutional Court decided to suspend its ruling on the lawsuit submitted by Shkodra Mayor Voltana Ademi on the legitimacy of the local elections held on June 30, 2019.
Now, the Constitutional Court will turn to the Venice Commission’s opinion, and then have its say on Ademi’s lawsuit urging to render the elections as not valid.
All parties have a right to deposit one question to the Venice Commission until June 25.
Afterward, the Constitutional Court emphasized that it will address its question to the Venice Commission in order to hear its opinion on a dispute that has stirred a wide political debate.
Shkodra’s Mayor welcomed the Constitutional Court’s decision to address the Venice Commission, saying that she expects a righteous verdict.
“I am convinced that the Constitutional Court will do justice to the rights of citizens,” said Ademi.
This is not the first time that Albanian institutions turn to Venice Commission to resolve their disputes.
