The Kosovo Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Monday that they had discovered the lifeless body of another suspected attacker in the northern region, bringing the total number of killed attackers to four.

The lifeless body was found approximately 1.5 kilometers away from the “incident site”, a day after a group of armed individuals attacked the Kosovo Police.

“We are currently making efforts to identify him, as he did not have any identification documents with him,” stated prosecutor Naim Abazi.

Abazi also noted the discovery of another vehicle with weapons at the scene.

On Sunday, Kosovo Police were assaulted by masked individuals during the early hours as they attempted to remove barricades that had been set up in Banjska. The attackers later sought refuge in the village’s monastery.

As a consequence of this incident, Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku lost his life, and several others were injured.

Kosovar authorities stated on Sunday that three attackers were killed during the assault, and six individuals suspected of having contact with them were apprehended.

The situation in northern Kosovo remained peaceful on Monday. However, access to the village of Banjska in the Municipality of Zvecan continued to be blocked by Kosovo Police following the deadly attack by armed and masked individuals on Sunday.

The Kosovo Special Unit deployed an armored vehicle and other vehicles at the Ballaban intersection, which leads to Banjska.

During a press conference, Prime Minister Albin Kurti described the armed attackers as “a professionally organized unit that came to fight in Kosovo”.

He called on the group to surrender to Kosovar authorities.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić claimed that the armed individuals were local Serbs from Kosovo who could no longer endure Kurti’s reign of terror.

Vučić condemned the killing of the Kosovo Police officer, asserting that it “cannot be justified”. Nevertheless, he denied any connection between Belgrade and the attack.
