Edith Harxhi, the only female candidate in the race for the party’s leadership, has also voted just shortly ago.
Speaking to the media after having voted, Harxhi said she is confident about winning, adding that it will bring a reformation to the DP and accused the current leadership of halving the list of voters and by doing so denying them the right to choose for the new leader.
“I think I will be the winner, and Democrats will also be winners today. There have been some major problems, the list of voters has been halved in many branches. I am calling on Basha and the party’s presidency to include all Democrats in the lists. The first Democrats that showed up were denied voting only because they’re not active. Our day begins today, my battle starts today to rebuild the Democratic Party”, Harxhi said.
Racing for the party’s top post is incumbent leader Lulzim Basha and three other contenders, namely Agron Shehaj, Edit Harxhi, and Fatbardh Kadilli.
Polls opened today at 8 AM, while voting will continue until 7 PM. There are over 75,000 DP members entitled to vote for the party’s new leader with a 4-year mandate.
