Just a few kilometers from Elbasan and Tirana lies Funari, a hidden village nestled among green hills that has become a favorite weekend destination for many.

Often referred to as Albania’s “Little Switzerland,” Funari is increasingly attracting both local and foreign tourists, who are enchanted by its unspoiled nature and crystal-clear lakes.

“Funari offers a lot, especially with the stunning view behind us,” says one visitor.

“It’s beautiful—such a vibrant and bright place. I think it lacks some basic infrastructure. Improving the road is essential because it’s a beautiful area, but it lacks resources,” adds another.

To further promote areas with tourism potential like Funari, cultural and sports activities have been launched, breathing new life into the region and increasing public attention.

“Funari is one of our key tourist spots, which we’ve promoted and continue to promote—not just because of its wonderful nature, but also because of its hardworking, kind people and delicious food. It’s close to the city of Elbasan and very relaxing. As you can see, it’s much cooler than Elbasan or Tirana. What Funari needs is a new road, and we’re working on that. We need a new connection via Dopaj, because the old road from Elbasan is no longer the most direct route to Tirana or the coast,” explains Gledian Llatja, Mayor of Elbasan.

With untouched nature, a refreshing climate, and a welcoming local community, Funari is fast becoming one of the most popular weekend getaways—just a short drive from the urban noise.
