Lorik Cana has publicly expressed his opposition to the joint organization of the U-21 European Championship between Albania and Serbia. In an interview, the former captain of the Albanian National Team emphasized his mistrust towards collaboration with the Serbian side, despite acknowledging the good intentions of the president of the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF), Armand Duka. While Cana appreciated Duka’s efforts for Albanian football, he voiced skepticism about Serbia’s sincerity in such partnerships, highlighting that deep divisions still exist between the two nations.
“I have represented and defended the FSHF because it is a national symbol. I speak my mind and say things as they are. At the moment, I see Serbia’s attitude toward us differently. Armand Duka has good intentions, but this is neither the right time nor the appropriate way to pursue such a joint initiative. In the future, if things improve, I would gladly support it.”
Cana continued by openly criticizing Duka’s decision to co-organize the tournament with Serbia, stressing that “Duka doesn’t fully understand who he’s dealing with.” The former captain made it clear that he has no trust in Serbia’s sincerity in dealings with Albanian entities, whether it’s the FSHF or the Football Federation of Kosovo.
“I simply don’t think this is the right moment or method to do something together with them,” Cana concluded.
