Losses in the energy network continue to be high in Albania. In the first 4 months of the year, they accounted for 21% of the entire amount of electricity produced.
So, from the 2.76 million megawatts that were produced by the Hydropower Plants, 590 thousand megawatts were stolen or failed to go to the network to be consumed.
The largest technical and non-technical losses were recorded in January, the month when the energy lost was as much as 25% or as much as ¼ of the entire production and further they gradually decreased to 18.6% in April.
Data comes from the summary report of the Energy Regulatory Entity for the first 4 months of the year and if this amount of lost energy were to be sold in the market at the price of the period, it results that the loss in monetary value reaches up to 50 million euros.
Energy losses have decreased in recent years, as a result of actions to cut illegal connections and investments in the system. However, compared to some countries in the region, the ratio is higher, which shows that there is still work to be done.
