Dhimitër Bello, the rector of the Fan Noli University of Korça, in a press conference announced that the senate of this university just two days ago decided to merge the University of Korçë with the University of Tirana, a decision that according to him was voted 100 % of the teachers of this senate.

Bello has informed that despite the merger with the University of Tirana, the logo of the University of Korça remains. All this has come about due to the serious situation created in the university of the southeast of the country, the university that from one year to the next had a smaller number of students.

Bello also stated that during this period all efforts were made for agreement and internationalization of this university, but so far no such thing has been achieved. Under these conditions, the only solution according to the senate was to merge with the University of Tirana.

Asked about the decision-making that this university will lack, Bello stated that the representatives of the University of Korça will also be in the senate of the University of Tirana.

Asked if the senate before voting had two requests, the preservation of the existing programs and the retention of all lecturers, the rector answered briefly, while he did not rule out the possibility of lecturers’ fear of having to face the level of lecturers of Tirana, and much more with international lecturers in case of internationalization.

The University of Korça has 4 faculties and 3000 students who study. The most requested programs are those of the economic faculty, nursing-midwifery, and sports.
