The former chief democrat Lulzim Basha has reacted after the incident that took place this Tuesday where the leader of the DP Sali Berisha was punched by 31-year-old Gert Shehu.

In a post on his Twitter account, Basha wrote that this incident must be investigated and clarified completely while adding that violence can never be the solution.

“I strongly condemn the physical attack on Mr. Berisha. This incident must be fully investigated and clarified. Violence can never be a solution. It is only an indicator of a country without free elections, without justice, without a functional democracy, and with corruption left unpunished,” wrote Basha.

Gerti Shehu, 31 years old, attacked the head of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha at noon on Tuesday, while the latter was marching towards the boulevard “Deshmoret e Kombit” to participate in the protest.

The 31-year-old punched Berisha in the face, causing minor bleeding. He was immediately detained by Berisha’s bodyguards and in the meantime was assaulted by DP supporters and sympathizers.

The 31-year-old was escorted by the police and is currently receiving treatment at the Trauma hospital, as he has facial injuries and a fractured nose.

Officers have tried twice to interrogate the young man, but due to his health condition, he has not given any evidence so far. It is suspected that the 31-year-old suffers from mental health problems. Regarding the serious incident, Berisha said that everything is organized by Edi Rama.
