The head of the opposition party, VMRO DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski said on Wednesday that North Macedonia should organize snap parliamentary elections, which according to him “are the only solution to get out of the dire situation, corruption and political instability”.

In the last press conference for 2022, he said that his party’s priority is for the elections to be held in May next year, on the 14th or 21st.

“The situation in the country is unbearable, but also within the parties in power, especially SDSM, DUI and Alternative. A system restore is required. It is unrealistic what [Prime Minister] Dimitar Kovacevski says about the 2024 elections, first the presidential and then the parliamentary elections,” he said.

“In such a case, the presidential elections will be unsuccessful and the position will be held by the Speaker of Parliament, while the DUI, in addition to the position of the Speaker, will also have a technical Prime Minister according to the agreement they have with the SDSM, which means a monopoly from a political party”, stated Mickoski.

In addition, he said that the Macedonian opposition will not support the constitutional changes for the inclusion of the Bulgarian minority in it, as provided for in the agreement with Sofia.

The reaction of the head of the Macedonian opposition comes a day after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani, warned that from next week the consultations will be intensified to ensure the majority of two-thirds in the Macedonian Parliament, which are necessary for changing North Macedonia’s Constitution.
