President of France, Emmanuel Macron, warned on Monday that his country will review the commitments it has made on economic and political issues of visas for Kosovo and Serbia, if they do not behave responsibly.
Speaking on August 28 in an annual speech before the French ambassadors in Paris, Macron said that a clear commitment is expected from Kosovo and Serbia in solving the situation in the north of Kosovo peacefully.
“France and Germany have made their promises on visa policies and other economic issues, which will be reviewed if both parties do not behave responsibly. We must be very careful in this regard, especially when the stability of the Western Balkans is at risk”, said Macron.
The ambassadors of the member countries of the European Union agreed on November 30 to give the mandate to the European Council to negotiate the visa liberalization process for Kosovo with the European Parliament.
Visa-free movement for Kosovo citizens will be possible from January 1, 2024.
Macron’s comments come at a time when Kosovo has been repeatedly called to return to dialogue with Serbia and organize new elections in the north of the country.
