The Vice President of the Integration Commission, Etilda Gjonaj, revealed in an interview to Euronews Albania the main messages that will be evoked durong the December 6 summit set to take place in Tirana.
In the history of the European Union, as the former Minister of Justice noted, the summit is a common procedure, while for us, the gathering of European leaders and those of the Western Balkans is an extraordinary event, precisely because of the location of this event in the capital of Albania for the first time in history.
In addition, she added that since the creation of the European Union, this is the first meeting organized in the Balkans.
The December 6 summit, according to Gjonaj, gives special importance to Albania in the international arena.
“Holding the summit in a Balkan country even at this moment of European politics is not accidental. First, it is a strong message of support that the European Union considers the Western Balkans part of its agenda, an important part of the European Union. Secondly, it is a strong message for Russia, to show that it should stay away from inciting Balkan conflicts, but at the same time it is an appeal to countries of the region that their future is none other than Europe,” Gjonaj said.
