Opposition lawmakers walked out of the Albanian Parliament in protest after the ruling majority rejected their request to establish a parliamentary inquiry commission on the May 11 elections.
Democratic Party MP Albana Vokshi, during her speech in the plenary session, formally requested the creation of an inquiry commission for the May 11 elections, emphasizing that the opposition has a constitutional right to demand parliamentary investigations into electoral processes and the activities of public institutions.
“The denial of this fundamental right is a dangerous precedent for parliamentary democracy. The majority is silencing the opposition and obstructing transparency,” Vokshi declared.
Following the debate in the chamber, the opposition decided to leave the plenary session, arguing that the refusal to establish inquiry commissions violates Article 77 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right of the parliamentary minority to request investigations on matters of public interest.
