German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, who is set to retire at the end of her fourth term in government, is beginning her Balkan tour today. Her first stop will be Belgrade, where she will be received by Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic. As was announced by the Chancellor’s briefing room, the topics of discussion will include political and economic cooperation as well as the country’s process of integration into the European Union.

The Serbian president has deemed Merkel’s visit as a great honor for Serbia and as a chance to thank her in person for everything she has done for Serbia and the region during her long-lasting mandate as chancellor.

Amongst other things, Vucic also noted that the conception of the Berlin Process by Merkel back in 2014, with the goal of promoting cooperation and the European integration of the region, has created new possibilities of collaboration amongst countries of the Western Balkans.

Tomorrow, Merkel will head to Albania, where she will meet with the prime ministers of the Western Balkans countries including Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
