The Movement Diaspora for Free Albania has made its initiative public and calls on the political class to approve the amendment to the Electoral Code to enable all Albanians abroad to vote in parliamentary elections.
Seven opposition deputies have proposed to the Albanian Parliament the initiation of parliamentary procedures for the examination and approval of the draft law on the vote of emigrants.
The Constitutional Court decided last December to request Parliament’s approval within a year for these changes.
Media statement of the Movement Diaspora for Free Albania
The Movement Diaspora for Free Albania presented to the public on 08.09.2023 the draft prepared by it with the suggested changes to the Electoral Code to fill the legal vacuum identified by the Constitutional Court for the Diaspora Vote.
After a period of discussion with the parties involved in the process, the movement submitted this draft on 10.10.2023 to the Chairwoman of the Albanian Parliament, Mrs. Lindita Nikolla, and for the knowledge of all political parties, protocolized with No. 3060.
Today, Diaspora for Free Albania introduces this draft into the legislative process! With the support of a group of proposing deputies, it proposes to the Albanian Parliament the initiation of parliamentary procedures for the examination and approval of this draft law.
The proposing deputies are:
- Mr. Fatmir Mediu
- Mr. Gazment Bardhi
- Mr. Agron Gjekmarkaj
- Mr. Agron Duka
- Mrs. Jorida Tabaku
- Mrs. Emilia Koliqi
- Mrs. Dhurata Çupi Tyli
Thanking the proposing deputies, we call on all members of the Albanian Parliament to support this draft law coming from representatives of the Diaspora, not to look at narrow political interests of the moment but to unite to enable all Albanians wherever they are the right to vote and the opportunity for political representation, as well as the influence on the governance of the country, as it happens in every democratic country.
