The President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, has said that the European Union states are being dishonest in relation to Kosovo.
In a press conference in Tirana next to the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, Milanović stated that he is the only non-Albanian who is asking for Kosovo to be recognized as a state, since, as he says, European countries do not mention it.
“The fact is that I am one of the only ones who am not Albanian, and I made the call in New York to accept Kosovo. This is the topic that Mr. President also spoke about. All of Europe knows this fact, but will not mention it. This is not very good and honest. This is useless and even harmful for us. We have been hearing the same arguments for 12 years, and as time passes, the obstacles become more difficult. Very few things are being done,” the Croatian President declared on Wednesday.
Milanović further said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić should be put under pressure to answer the terrorist attack in Banjska on September 24, where officer Afrim Bunjaku was killed. According to the Croatian President, the sanctions have no value as they would only help Vučić mobilize votes.
“Two weeks ago, I said that Serbia and Vučić owe us an answer. I also said this in Zagreb. Unlike in 1914 when a young man killed the heir of the Austro-Hungarian front and his wife, it was not possible to establish the connection between him and the collaborators in Serbia, and it caused a world war. The author had a weapon smuggled from Serbia. Today we have facts and testimonies, people who have experienced them. Vučić has not yet responded. But the sanctions do not bring anything that would change the political attitude. These sanctions would only help the rulers to mobilize the voters. When I say these things, it feels like I’m kicking myself in the tail. Vučić should be under pressure to give us answers. Therefore, I think that these decisions will not be taken by Croatia, but by others,” he added.
Milanović also criticized the EU for the fact that it has not properly monitored Albania’s progress “in all aspects”.
