Minister Koçiu Meets Commissioner Brunner: Albania Committed to the Path of Integration and Shared Security

The Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu, met on Friday with the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, as part of a regional tour of visits.

During the meeting, the minister emphasized that Albania is committed to completing the technical process of integration with the European Union by 2027. She described this objective as achievable, citing the progress made so far and the close cooperation with EU institutions.

She further underlined that achieving this goal requires the continuation of reforms and the full implementation of European standards, particularly in the areas of security, migration, and the rule of law.

Koçiu also expressed appreciation for the continued support of the European Commission, especially in the fields of security, migration, and the integration process, and reaffirmed Albania’s full commitment to fulfilling its obligations under Chapter 24.

Regarding migration and border management, Koçiu provided updates on the implementation of the 2024–2030 Migration Strategy, Albania’s accession as an observer to the European Migration Network, amendments to the law on foreigners, increased capacities for the protection of unaccompanied minors, as well as the adoption of the National Contingency Plan for Mixed Migration Flows 2026–2028.
