The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, said during a press conference that in 2020 air traffic dropped by 57%.

As she spoke about the strike of the air traffic controllers of the company Albcontrol over pay cuts, the minister clarified that the company is funded by the airlines based on the air traffic and does not receive any payment from the Albanian state.

“There have been no investments in the company since last March, as it was impossible due to lacking finances and of course operating costs have dropped”, said Balluku.

The Minister added that the company is going through financial hardships meanwhile its employees have “always been paid with averagely high salaries”, around $4.400, which were eventually lowered due to the pandemic.

The Minister also called on President Ilir Meta to take a public stance on the matter.
