The Archbishop of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, will be honored in Tirana on Thursday, January 30, with a funeral procession expected to be attended by the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the Archbishop of Athens, Hieronymos. This act of homage follows the passing of Archbishop Janullatos, a prominent figure in Orthodoxy and one of the most significant leaders of the Orthodox Church in Albania.

During a meeting with Archbishop Hieronymos at the Maximos Mansion, Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of Archbishop Anastasios’ work and contributions to the Orthodox Church, highlighting that he had rebuilt a devastated church in Albania and was a unique figure who cared deeply for his people.

“We are all deeply moved by the loss of the Archbishop of Albania. He was a great hierarch and an extraordinary man who accomplished remarkable work in Albania. I will be part of the funeral procession in Tirana to honor him as he deserves,” said Prime Minister Mitsotakis.

For his part, Archbishop Hieronymos, who had personally known Archbishop Anastasios since the early years of his life, praised him as a man of God and an unforgettable leader for the Albanian Orthodox Church.
“He was an exceptional person. I had the privilege to know him and share many moments with him. May God grant him eternal rest,” he said, thanking everyone who has joined in this moment of grief and respect for the late Archbishop.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis had also visited Archbishop Anastasios during his stay at the “Evangelismos” hospital from January 3 to January 25 to express his support and honor his extraordinary service to the church and the Albanian people.
