Montenegro has rejected Russia’s request to extradite Dmitry Sen, a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

Senin left from Russia in 2017 to avoid possible arrest in connection with a case involving his friend and relative, former Interior Ministry colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko.

He has sought political asylum in Montenegro, arguing that he fears political persecution in Russia.

Montenegro’s decision not to accept Senin’s extradition request due to alleged persecution in Russia for political reasons.

Senin is currently facing trial in absentia for desertion, and in 2021 Russian authorities declared him an internationally wanted person. If convicted, Senin could face up to seven years in prison in Russia.
