“Monuments damaged during Second World War”, exhibition opens in Tirana

In the framework of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Albania, the National Institute of Cultural Heritage organized the exhibition “Monuments Damaged during the Second World War”.

The purpose of this exhibition was to recall and present the objects damaged during the Second World War in Albania, through a valued collection of graphic materials and archival documents, which are important for the history of Albania.

In this exhibition, some documentary and photographic materials were presented that proved the damage suffered by the cult objects, as a result of the fighting.

Among the selected materials were:

Photo of Et’hem Bey mosque, 1944

Photo of the Bargjini mosque in 1944

List of cult objects damaged during World War II, 1944, etc.

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage, for the realization of this exhibition, collaborated with the General Directorate of the State Archive, which contributed to the collection of archival materials, as well as with experts in the field who participated in this exhibition to share their several years of experience on the history of Cultural Monuments in Albania.
