Tour operators in Vlora call the start of this summer season a good one, as there is an increase by 30% in bookings compared to the same month last year. The city’s main tourists are Italians, with Spaniards and Nordics on the rise.

Laert Mezani, administrator of a tourist agency notes the increase despite accommodation prices going up.

“The increase of prices during this year has reflected in tourist services. There is an issue with the fluctuation in exchange rates, which is also reflected in our prices. Accommodation prices have increased by 10-15%,” Mezani tells Euronews Albania.

Despite the increase in bookings, problems remain the same, with the lack of human resources being the main concern of hotel administrators. Some units in the city have taken measures to avoid the problematic since the winter season.

“We are completely based on local human resources, as we promote employment of youth as well as women on a national level. Seeking foreign labor force like many others have done would be our last resort, as we want to empower Albanians towards employment and economic independence,” says Anisa Ceno, administrator of a hotel unit in Vlora.

Despite old problems and with preparations almost at an end, tour operators expect a fruitful season, with 80% of their capacities already booked for the summer months.
