The believers of Vlora are without a mosque because the recent rains that flooded the city forced the leaders of the mosque to close it and ask for its total restoration.
The flood of October 4 has put out of operation one of the main mosques of the city of Vlora.
The Lead Mosque has already closed its doors to all its believers. The mufti of Vlora, Ardit Hoxhlleku, says that the damages are great.
“The Lead Mosque is a cultural monument of the first category and, as we know, on October 4 there was a flood in all of Vlora where the mosque was also affected, .. after we received an expertise from the verification commission of the Muslim community of Albania, but also from the Ministry of Culture, to keep it closed due to the risk of its attendance. Because the damages are both from the dome, but also from the walls, now we are trying, talking with TIKA. ,, also with the Ministry of Culture, to do a general restoration, We want to keep it, get it back on its feet, because it is almost 500 years old and is one of the most special mosques in the Balkans, built by architect Sinani of Albanian origin”, – Ardit Hoxhlleku, Mufti of Vlora.
The mufti of Vlora asks the faithful to be patient until the total restoration of the mosque is completed.
“For the believers, I ask them to be patient, to pray to God that we can complete this work as soon as possible, return it to where it should be, and contribute not in the monetary side, because we will solve the monetary side through institutions; their contribution is enduring and understanding us for every day that this closure can last”.
Also, the citizens of Vlora demand that the state, the institutions, intervene as soon as possible to fix it.
“It is very bad what we do, they are natural things, there is nothing you can do about them, the state regulates them, but the state still destroys them. The state must intervene as soon as possible, it should have intervened earlier.”

The total reconstruction that is expected to be done to the Lead mosque is expected to give it a better image and comfort for all the believers who attend it.
