Speeches by members of parliament will now be transcribed using artificial intelligence. The Albanian Parliament has allocated €750,000 for this project.
Transcribing MPs’ speeches has long posed a challenge for the institution due to limited resources and the high volume of content requiring fast turnaround. To address this, the Parliament has invested in an AI-based system. According to a recent procurement notice, speeches during plenary sessions and committee debates will now be automatically transcribed.
The tender had failed several times in the past but was finalized shortly after the May 11 elections. The contract was awarded to the company Dega Semos AL, in partnership with PC Store and BitGenius, for the supply and four-year maintenance of an advanced AI transcription system.
According to official documents, the Parliament justifies the spending by highlighting the overwhelming workload placed on staff, who previously had to transcribe the content manually—often a time-consuming and exhausting process.
The new technology will allow real-time processing of speeches, thematic categorization, and automatic publication on official channels.
Although the effectiveness of the system has yet to be tested in practice, it will be monitored over time—particularly if complaints arise from MPs or other parties regarding the accuracy of the transcripts.
