The Ministry of Local Government Administration is cooperating with the elected mayors of the municipalities in the north of Kosovo, to organize the sessions of the municipal assemblies, as well as the solemn oath of the mayors, announced the head of this ministry, Elbert Krasniqi.
The oath before the municipal assembly of the elected mayor of the municipality is a solemn procedure that marks the assumption of office.
Minister Krasniqi told Radio Free Europe that on Monday, all the information will be provided on when and where the sessions of the municipal assemblies will be held in the remaining municipalities of Zubin Potok, Leposavić and Zvečan.
However, he emphasized that the locations for holding the sessions have not yet been specified.
“We are in the process. The teams are working to define all these processes.”
Until now, only the new mayor of North Mitrovica, Erden Atić, took the solemn oath before the Municipal Assembly, on May 19th.
Unlike Zubin Potok, which has a functional municipal assembly, the other two municipalities, still do not have them functional.
Mayors of municipalities cannot take the oath without the functionalization of the municipal assemblies, before which they solemnly take office.
Minister Krasniqi has not provided details on how they will be operationalized and in which facilities, as well as where the infrastructure that enables the work of municipal institutions will operate.
Elections for the mayors of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo were held on April 23rd, after the previous mayors from the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo resigned in November of last year.
They left the institutions as a sign of dissatisfaction with a decision of the Government of Kosovo to re-register vehicles carrying illegal license plates issued by Serbia, with legal license plates RKS – Republic of Kosovo.
Members of the Serbian community widely boycotted the April elections and said they do not accept the results, namely the new leaders from the Albanian community.
