Muslim believers in Albania and everywhere in the world celebrate Kurban Bayram today.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, through a post on his Facebook page, congratulated all believers.
“Happy Kurban Bayram”, writes Rama.
Kurban Bayram (Eid al-Fitr), or the Feast of the Sacrifice, is celebrated on the third day of Hajj and lasts for three days. It is the second major Muslim holiday in the Islamic calendar after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. On the first day of Eid al-Adha, Muslims who can afford it are asked to sacrifice an animal and distribute a certain percentage of its meat to those less fortunate.
This is done in symbolic commemoration of the prophet Ibrahim, who, according to Islamic tradition, is believed to have been asked by God to sacrifice his son Ismail.
Eid al-Fitr also aims to clean the environment inside and outside the house, the yard and the street, to clean the believers before the Eid prayer, to dress well, to eat something before the Eid of Ramadan, to distribute sadaqat’ul-fitr (and zakat), performing the Eid prayer, Eid greetings, prepared meals and visits during Eid.
