An ethnic Albanian student living in North Macedonia, Emira Selimi, has undertaken a special initiative, through which she seeks support to open up the first Albanian library in the city of Manastir.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Selimi stated that she had received numerous threatening messages regarding this initiative.

Selimi also underlined that these threats came from a Macedonian citizen, accusing her of being a terrorist who doesn’t want there to be peace.

“In my inbox comes a threat from a person whose name I don’t want to mention. I was also contacted by the US embassy yesterday. He tells me, you are a fascist, you are a terrorist, who wants to destabilize the country, you do not seek peace, but you say such things. I sent that message to a media outlet in Albania and then the journalist published it, but without revealing the name of the person.

I don’t take them seriously at all, I know what awaits me. We who live in North Macedonia, know that the weak spot of Macedonians is the city of Manastir. Everyone here is afraid of the truth, and the truth speaks very well, about who that city belongs to. For years, they have been trying to assimilate us through various propaganda,” she emphasized.
