This Sunday, December 8th is celebrated, “National Youth Day” in honor of the student movement of December 8th, 1990 that marked the beginning of establishing pluralism after the communist dictatorship.

34 years ago, Albanian students and youth rose up against one of the harshest communist regimes in Europe, recalls the US Embassy in Tirana, underlining that today’s youth continues to shape the future of Albania and the United States will stand by as they move forward on the path to membership in the European Union.

“Today, Albania celebrates National Youth Day, marking 34 years since Albanian students and youth rose up against one of the harshest communist regimes in Europe, marking its fall and shaping the nation’s future. On December 8, we remember those who fought for democracy. Today’s youth continue to shape Albania’s future, and the United States stands with you as you move forward on your path to EU membership,” the US embassy wrote on Facebook.
