A new 22-kilometer road will be built in the southwestern area of Tirana. The Albanian Road Authority has launched tenders for the construction of the By-Pass connecting Mullet to Kashar.
The new road aims to directly link the Tirana-Durrës highway with the Tirana-Elbasan road, bypassing the capital’s urban center.
According to the project, the route will feature two lanes in each direction with a total width of 10.5 meters and will support speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The road will traverse flat and hilly terrain, including major technical works such as dual bridges over the Erzen River, the construction of a new tunnel near Rrogozhinë, and three main interchanges. One of these will connect to the existing Tirana–Durrës highway (at Plepa), providing entry and exit points for nearby areas. The other two will link with the Kashar–Rrogozhinë and Tirana–Elbasan highways.
Tender documents show that the road will pass through agricultural areas, including the villages of Allgjatë, Picallë, and Stërmas.
Beyond easing traffic flow, the bypass is expected to deliver environmental and urban benefits by diverting heavy traffic away from Tirana, thus reducing pollution, inner-city congestion, and road accidents within the capital.
